Calendar announcement
2018 UCI MTB ELIMINATOR WORLD
CUP
The
2018 UCI MTB Eliminator World Cup will include new rounds in Graz (Austria),
Bangkok (Thailand) and Brazil. The series will kick off in Columbus
(Georgia/USA), to be held in the beginning of June, with the finals taking place
in Brazil at the end of November. In between, City Mountainbike is set to add
three additional races to the
calendar.
After
a successful 2017, it is sure to be an exciting and entertaining season with a
variety of terrain and challenging new courses. A few of the
2018 rounds will have slight changes to the existing race course to make it even
more spectacular. There will also be different starting areas. Cross-country
eliminator contenders will have a busy season ahead of them, with 3 new races
called “City Mountainbike Festivals” being added to the UCI
calendar for 2018.
Graz
(Austria) is the first newcomer that City Mountainbike welcomes
in 2018. Graz has earned its role as a respected organiser of formerly hosted
mountain bike events. It is yet another opportunity to develop the city of Graz
into a leading mountain bike destination.
The international
character of the first edition has caught the attention of various big
cities. It is the perfect location to host such an event, as it requires minimum
logistics. A cooperation with one of South-America’s biggest organizers will see
a stunning final round of the 2018 UCI MTB Eliminator World Cup in
Brazil.

BRINGING THE FORMAT TO A BROADER
AUDIENCE
A
new type of races, called ‘City
Mountainbike Festivals’ will make its debut on the UCI calendar
as of 2018. The Festivals have a similar program as City Mountainbike’s current
format. It also includes a men’s and women’s eliminator. At the end of each
Festival, the best riders of the day will be awarded. Both the eliminator and
shorttrack will count for the day classification.
City
Mountainbike is proud to introduce these additional events:
“Due to the many applications we’ve
received for hosting a World Cup event, we decided to take City Mountainbike to
the next level. The festivals allow us to bring this format to the
broadest possible audience, featuring XCE races in multiple
events throughout the season. We will get more exposure and attract new riders.
It also guarantees the future of our World Cup series, and
contributes to the development of this urban discipline throughout the world”,
concludes City
Mountainbike
