City Mountainbike : plein succès pour l'épreuve de ce dernier week-end !

City Mountainbike Belgium: a successful weekend of racing!

In presence of 3 Rio Olympians, we’ve had a strong line-up for this year’s edition and were proud to welcome Jens Schuermans, Ruben Scheire and Githa Michiels.
Fabrice Mels clinched the national title for the5th year in row. Mels won the overall of City Mountainbike Belgium ahead of Ruben Scheire and David Horvath.

Antwerp was the first one to host City Mountainbike Belgium. Nice weather and a great atmosphere saw first day of racing go well. Former World Champion and reigning Belgian Champion, Fabrice Mels, was the rider to watch, according to the peloton. Mels kicked off the race weekend and has put on a great effort on the tricky 945 meters track. He was the fastest with an average of 33.86 km/h, followed by Robin Vanden Abeele and David Horvath. German Majlen Müller won the women’s race.

Length increased this year’s course in Waregem. The riders had to face a relatively fast 994 meters track. The weather got changed and it turned out to be a windy but great final! It was former European Champion, Jeroen van Eck, who won the XCE in Waregem with an average of 38.16 km/h. Yet again, David Horvath came close to the win and proved himself as one of the strongest but has to be satisfied with second place. Tobias Eise came in as third. An international presence was a fact.

Despite of not qualifying for the XCE finas,Fabrice Mels was still in the mix for the Belgian title and left Bytebier and De Rouck behind to extend his national title for another year! Mels wins the nationals for the 5th year in a row.Githa Michiels was crowned National Champion in the women’s XCE, while Steven Derouck extended his title in the masters category.

Ruben Scheire saw his chance at theShorttrack (XCC), as he managed to get away in the final 6 minutes of racing. Scheire continues his good form and crossed the line as first, ahead of Tobias Eise and Fabrice Mels.

We’d like to extend a big thank you to all competitors, visitors and partners, as well as both cities, Antwerp and Waregem for hosting City Mountainbike Belgium. We’ll keep you posted with more unique races venues to come in the near future! See you in 2017! More photos to come soon!
