Montjuic in Barcelona to stage first World Cup of 2019
The 2019 season will kick off on Saturday, March 23 with the first round in Barcelona, Spain. World's best athletes will contest the inaugural World Cup at the Park of Montjuic. The race will be very technical, yet the riders will face some natural obstacles on a competitive circuit. It promises to be an exciting race to the finish for the first leader's jersey of the 2019 UCI MTB Eliminator World Cup.
Montjuïc is a prominent hill overlooking the Barcelona harbour. For ages, it played a strategic part in the defense of the city and it’s one of the city’s natural elevations. Nowadays, the area is a touristic magnet for Barcelona. There are so many things to do in Montjuic you just can’t miss on your trip to Barcelona! If you want to enjoy breathtaking views of the port, the sea and the city, we suggest you make your way to the top of Montjuïc.
This unique location is also home to major attractions, including the 1992 Olympic Games. When Barcelona hosted the 1992 Olympic Games, the city became the world's capital during a fortnight which will be etched forever in people's memories. The Olympic Ring on Montjuïc was the nerve centre of the festivities.
